Biography

Sam began his tutoring career at Harvard, working at the undergraduate Writing Center editing the papers of his classmates. Since graduating magna cum laude with a degree in Literature, Sam has been helping students achieve for almost 20 years.

He is a standardized test prep wiz, having taught (and taken!) everything from high school entrance exams (SSAT, ISEE, SHSAT) to the SAT and ACT to graduate level prep for the GRE and GMAT. His approach focuses on learning to speak the language of the test and creating strategies for efficient and effective ways to get you to the correct answer. These can range from searching for key words in the question itself, to using the answer choices as a starting point, to anticipating the answer before you look at the answer choices. He also specializes in college essay prep and application help, earning his clients admissions to a wide variety of top colleges and universities.

Something of an academic generalist and polymath, Sam also tutors most high school subjects specializing in English, Math, Biology, History, and Spanish. He attempts to engage every student differently rather than adhere to a “one-method-fits-all” model of tutoring.

In addition to his exploits as a tutor Sam is an accomplished actor, a published author and playwright, and general arts enthusiast.
