Naomi Berhane

Adaptive and Encouraging Tutor for Mathematics and Test Prep Support

Paris / New York, NY

Biography

Originally from Los Angeles, Naomi is a graduate of Harvard University, where she earned a Bachelorโ€™s degree in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in African Studies. Over the past ten years as a tutor, she has worked with students in a variety of capacities and subjects. Naomi has worked privately with students ranging in age from kindergarten to college. While living in New York City, Naomi worked with several students from independent schools such as Horace Mann, The Masters School, and Fordham Prep.

While completing a six-month mentored training program in ACT and SAT preparation, Naomi began working as a test prep tutor, guiding students through the process. She has helped students achieve ACT scores as high as 36 and prioritizes emotional readiness alongside content mastery.

Naomi believes that the most important part of tutoring is actively listening to the student and pay attention to their needs. Not all students voice their confusion; some may try to move on or give up on a concept if they find it difficult to understand. She strives to create a learning environment that encourages all questions and remains attentive to any gaps in understanding. Until she gets to know the student better, she asks as many questions as possible about the problems and concepts at hand to assess how much material is being understood and identify areas that need reinforcement. Naomi believes that any student can excel when given the right support, and that it is the instructorโ€™s responsibility to adapt their teaching style to the student’s needs.

When not tutoring, Naomi enjoys playing guitar and violin, improving her French, and playing tennis. She enjoys exploring new cities and spends her downtime solving puzzles and reading.

Parent Testimonials:
โ€œNaomi was an excellent mentor and math tutor for my son. I would without a doubt hire again. She is truly exceptional, patient, and kind. She has made an impact not only on my son, but me as well. Her disposition is lovely and she has an impactful, yet subtle way of demanding structure. My son is a typical 11 year old, but he also has challenges with ADHD. Naomi was able to find creative ways to introduce information and teach according to his learning style.โ€
