Biography
Ashley graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Yale University with distinction in her two majors, Italian & International Studies. She grew up in New York City and attended Convent of the Sacred Heart School for 13 years, graduating as the Salutatorian. Ashley is fluent in five languages and has studied all the languages that she speaks in their native countries: Italian at the Universitร di Bologna, French in Paris while interning at an advertising agency, Spanish at CSA Academy in Antigua, Guatemala & German at the Goethe Institute in Hamburg. She has used her languages to facilitate communication while working as an Italian, Spanish and French medical interpreter in hospitals, as a legal interpreter and as a translator of documents in the medical, legal, arts/culture and journalism spheres.
Growing up in NYC, Ashley also had a passion for music & singing and sang in the Metropolitan Opera Childrenโs Chorus. She received the Browne Irish Performing Arts Award at Yale, and today she is a professional opera singer who has performed in Italy, Spain, France and Russia with such companies and venues as Carnegie Hall, New York City Opera, ABAO Bilbao Opera and Teatro de la Maestranza (Seville).
Ashley is passionate about sharing her knowledge with others and seeing the excitement on their faces when they understand. While a student at Sacred Heart, she was asked to tutor other students in math and at her University was part of the Yale College Tutoring Program as an Italian tutor. She has additional experience teaching Italian at the Dante Alighieri Institute, and private tutoring in languages, math, & English.
Ashley blends left and right brain techniques to craft a different approach that is tailored to the need of each student. She loves to help foster confidence and self esteem in her students. She takes joy in seeing them rise to the challenge, exceed their expectations and go on to set new and loftier ones.
REVIEWS:
Noma. P. – LOWER ISEE
Just wanted to say a big thank you for all your help prepping I. for the ISEE this fall. As you know her results (2 8s and 2 9s) were outstanding. Your warmth in working with I. and deep knowledge of the test materials helped make the whole process painless for us. You were always prompt and thorough in assigning work and following up and your lessons were well organized and well thought out. We also appreciate your flexibility in scheduling, even with many last minute changes made by us! And she got accepted into two of our top 3 choices. I’m sure a lot of the success in attendance is attributable not just to her test scores to many additional skills she learned while working with you. I’m happy to provide any references or recommendations in the future should any prospective clients need one.
Hartley B. — FRENCH
The improvement in their French grades reflects the value of your input. I know it has not always been easy because B & C are not particularly comfortable with French but we greatly appreciate your time and effort and will gladly recommend you to anyone seeking a French tutor in the future. I will certainly be in touch if French (or another area in which they need help) is on the horizon.
Jenny S. – SPANISH
Another Spanish Victory! Thank you so much! You have really helped her turn things around and I can’t thank you enough.
