Biography
Brendan Mernin has been a leader in test prep and admissions since 1989. He has tutored, taught, and advised thousands of students and families worldwide; trained hundreds of teachers and tutors; and developed leading instructional content. He has appeared in The New York Times, New York Magazine, New York Post, and Slate, and on WBNC-TV. He was formerly Director of R&D for LSAT and ACT for a large national test prep company. He is a Founding Tutor of and Senior Director of Recruiting, Tutor Engagement, and QA for Noodle Pros.
Brendan moved from the Boston area to New York City to attend Columbia College. Recruited as a rower, he ended up playing for the USA’s #1 ranked Ultimate Frisbee team and studying English Literature. After college, he was a schoolteacher in the Bronx, a hipster on the Lower East Side, a bicycle messenger in Paris, a graduate literature student at the University of Chicago, editor of a cycling magazine in New York, a freelance writer on politics and transportation, and a section hiker on the Appalachian Trail. He was a Writing Fellow at the Edward Albee Foundation in Montauk, New York and a winner of the Pen and Brush Club Writing Award at the New School, where he earned an M.F.A. in Fiction Writing.
Brendan was Co-Founder and Founding Director of Math4Science, Inc, a nonprofit dedicated to improving American math education by connecting high-quality, teacher-written math curriculum with accessible information about STEM and other careers. He served on the Board of Trustees at Saint Joseph High School in Brooklyn and now serves on the Alumni Council at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge, MA. He is a father of two daughters in Brooklyn.
