Alex Whalen

Alex began his work as a one-on-one tutor while completing his MA and PhD in Political Science at Boston University. His initial focus was on the alphabet soup of standardized tests, but when he discovered he often enjoyed his time one-on-one with students more than his time in the classroom, he quickly expanded his focus to include academic support for middle and high school students in a wide array of subjects. At the same time, he continued his career as an electronic music producer and DJ, playing clubs and festivals around the world as much as his schedule would allow. Over more than two decades as a tutor, he has helped thousands of high school and college students become better versions of themselves both in and out of school including guiding several of them to perfect scores on the LSAT and GMAT.

After nearly 20 years in Boston, Alex moved to the mountains of Colorado in the summer of 2022, fulfilling a lifelong dream of living at high altitude in the Colorado Rockies. In addition to working as a private tutor, he volunteers as a Mentor for Full Circle, works at Colorado Mountain College as a test proctor and government instructor, and teaches DJing as an artist-instructor for BreckCreate. Given Leadville’s central location in the heart of the mountains, Alex is available for in-person tutoring in Aspen, Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Copper, and other neighboring resorts.
