GMAT Testing Accommodations: How Can I Get Them?

If you are set on taking the GMAT and you believe you may be eligible for GMAT testing accommodations, the Graduate Management Admissions Council (GMAC) has a specific set of guidelines and steps that you should follow. We will outline some of them here. Keep in mind that the granting of accommodations is not automatic, and your requests must be approved before anything else may occur.

Important items to consider for GMAT accommodations:

  • Make your request for GMAT accommodations well in advance of the time you plan to take the GMAT. The GMAC claims that they will usually decide within 16-20 business days of your accommodations request, but it can often take longer than that.
  • Your disability request is kept strictly confidential.
  • These GMAT accommodations will also apply if you are planning to take the GMAT At-Home or GMAT Online.
  • Do NOT register for the GMAT until you have been granted the GMAT accommodations. If you register before the accommodations are granted, it will be assumed that registration is for standard test conditions.
  • If you are granted accommodations, your GMAT score report will NOT indicate that you took the test with any accommodations. This is in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Once granted accommodations, you may use them for up to two years without having to reapply.
  • GMAT accommodations are especially important given the GMAT as a computer adaptive test.

What Kinds of GMAT Accommodations Can I Request?

Though extended time is the most common accommodation requested (it is not possible to receive unlimited time), there are several other accommodations that are possible depending on oneโ€™s disability.

  • Additional breaks or extended breaks
  • A test reader who can also record answers
  • Enlarged print on the computer screen
  • A sign language interpreter
