Valerie began her tutoring career in college, where she worked as a private biology tutor under the recommendation of her professor for three years. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in sociology. At her college graduation, Valerie was awarded the Honors-Science Medallion for having the highest science GPA in her University’s Honors Program. She was also honored with the Award for Service in Biology, specifically for her role in mentoring other students in the program. She went on to obtain a Master of Arts in Education with a secondary teaching certification in biology, and while in graduate school joined the Inspirica Team. After receiving a full-time science position at the nationally recognized Conestoga High School in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, Valerie had to take a short break from the company to focus on the responsibilities of a first-year teacher. Now that she has three years of teaching experience under her belt, she is back at Inspirica part-time, and she could not be happier. For more, see the complete bio below.

Tutor Bio

Valerie began her tutoring career in college, where she worked as a private biology tutor under the recommendation of her professor for three years. She graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in sociology. At her college graduation, Valerie was awarded the Honors-Science Medallion for having the highest science GPA in her University’s Honors Program. She was also honored with the Award for Service in Biology, specifically for her role in mentoring other students in the program. Through her tutoring and mentoring work, Valerie recognized her strong passion for teaching, so she went on to obtain a Master of Arts in Education with a secondary teaching certification in biology.

In 2016, while in graduate school, Valerie joined the Inspirica Team, where she derived great joy from her one-on-one interactions with students. Tutoring for Inspirica reaffirmed her choice to pursue a career in education. After receiving a full-time science position at the nationally recognized Conestoga High School in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, Valerie had to take a short break from the company to focus on the responsibilities of a first-year teacher. Now that she has three years of teaching experience under her belt, she is back at Inspirica part-time, and she could not be happier! She truly missed the reward of helping students achieve their testing goals and subsequently shaping their futures. Valerie tutors test prep for the SAT, ACT, and SAT Biology Subject tests. She has worked successfully with students of varying ages and educational backgrounds. Valerie has many proud moments at Inspirica, but one that sticks out is when she helped a student get into her reach school, Georgetown University, by bumping her SAT score up a few hundred points. Valerie still has the personal thank you email saved from the student because it meant so much to her.

Valerie lives in Media, Pennsylvania with her husband and her bearded dragon, Puff. Her husband is a zookeeper at the Brandywine Zoo in Delaware, so together, they are known among friends as the animal-loving, nerdy, science couple. In her free time, Valerie likes to hike through wildlife areas, ride her bike, and listen to podcasts. She is also involved in many extracurriculars at the high school where she works; she serves as the faculty sponsor for the Gender and Sexuality Club, the Bee Aware Club, the Improv Club, and the Science Olympiad team. In addition, she is currently pursuing a second master’s degree in Multicultural Education to enhance her ability to engage in educational equity work.
