Patty started tutoring in elementary school, selected by a teacher to help a younger student struggling with dyslexia and learning to read. Through her academic career, she continued to help peers and received many student referrals. Graduating Magna Cum Laude with an undergraduate degree in Biology, Patty was drawn to pursue graduate work. As a graduate student, Patty taught several Biology courses and after graduating with a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution, Patty continued to balance teaching and tutoring. She currently teaches high school and middle school science classes at a Quaker private school in the Philly area. Patty also regularly teaches college-level courses in Anatomy and Physiology.
Patty’s wealth of teaching and tutoring background allows her to work with students from elementary school to graduate school. She has over 20 years of experience in professional tutoring with a particular strength in biological sciences. She also works with students in the college application process, helping to craft excellent essays and navigating the supplementary responses required for successful applications to top tier schools.
Patty’s favorite tutoring moments are when she can demystify math or science for students. Helping a student transform from math-fearful to math-fun can not only increase an ACT score from 23 to 30 but also offer a life-changing perspective that opens new opportunities. One of Patty’s favorite transformational tutoring moments was a student that had all but given up on the SAT and was considering community colleges. In a few months of tutoring his score increased from 1000 to a 1330; with renewed confidence he applied and was accepted to the college of his choice!
When she is not working, Patty is usually walking her two red Labrador Retrievers or doing SAT math problems to relax (just kidding… only kind of). She loves hiking, backpacking, and canoeing and spends her summer unplugged in the backwoods of the Adirondacks.
