Tutor Bio

Karan had never entertained the idea of tutoring. His freshman year calculus professor had set up an interview, with a recommendation, for him to work at his university’s tutoring lab due to his professor’s observation of how helpful Karan was to his fellow classmates. Karan graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and a Master of Science in Biological Sciences. He did not want to give up tutoring after undergraduate, so he has decided to continue doing so since.

Karan has worked with students of all ages and backgrounds ranging from middle schoolers struggling with math homework to adults in their late 60s pursuing a postgraduate education. He has tutored Algebra, Calculus, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Biology up to an undergraduate level. As well as these subjects, he tutors the SSAT, ISEE, SAT, ACT, and GRE. Anyone that knows Karan can immediately tell you what his favorite subject or topic to tutor is: math. Whether it be math for the SAT, GRE, or a college course, Karan jumps at the opportunity to be able to help someone learn a subject he feels so passionate about. He says that when he can help someone appreciate and like, or even love, math as much as he does, there is no other feeling like it. His best tutoring moment was when he tutored a student who was taking the ACT. His student excelled at every section outside of math. His scores for the English, Reading, and Science sections ranged consistently between 31-33, but his Math score was around a 23. Karan has helped him not only hone his skills but also learn material and concepts his student previously thought impossible. His score shot up to 29. His student had previously given up hope of getting an overall score of at least 30 on every section, but now knew it was not only possible but also obtainable.

Karan spends his free time playing video games, going to the gym, or just hanging out with his brother and dog. He loves books and is a huge science fiction, fantasy, and comic fan; he can talk about those topics for hours on end.  For the next four years, Karan can be found exploring the surrounding area of Blacksburg, VA, all the while he waits for the day he can move back home to Philadelphia, PA.
